Boston: More than Beer Here!
Boston knows beer. From Sam Adams in Jamaica Plain to Harpoon here in the Seaport neighborhood to all the small craft brewers in between, you would be hard pressed to not find a brew suitable for you. However, you likely didn't know that the area is home to several unique distilleries that are great additions to your itinerary while visiting. Herewith, a few of our favorites:
• Boston Harbor Distillery (12R Ericsson St, Boston, MA, 02122): Head a little off the beaten path to Boston Harbor Distillery in Dorchester. Housed in a 19th century waterfront warehouse, this distillery also offers a tasting room and lounge space for its visitors. Open only to visitors on Saturdays from 1-7PM, the distillery also sells its own products like Putnam New England Whiskey and Seymour's Coffee Liqueur in this historic hotspot. • Bully Boy Distillers (35 Cedric St, Roxbury, MA 02119): During Prohibition, brothers Will and Dave Willis's family farm was a prime bootlegging storehouse. Inspired by that tantalizing tidbit of family history, they decided to get into craft distilling in 2011 with their Bully Boy line of small-batch products like white whiskey, Hub Punch, and Boston White Rum. • GrandTen Distilling (383 Dorchester Avenue, Boston, MA, 02127): South Boston's GrandTen Distilling houses its production of small-batch spirits in what was at one time the nation's largest iron foundry that produced ammunition for the War of 1812. Since 2012, the Dorchester Avenue facility has been producing such acclaimed libations as its marquee Wire Works Gin, the smoky Fire Puncher Vodka, and South Boston Irish Whiskey. Weekends are the best time to visit. Friday Night Flights is a by reservation only tasting event each week with a detailed tour followed by a tasting of the full lineup of GrandTen's products.
