Scoop Your Way Through Boston

About 4 week(s) ago by Seaport Hotel Boston
While we may be enjoying cooler-than-usual weather, Boston still has a few weeks of summer up its sleeve. With more humid weather expected in the coming days, those of us at Seaport love nothing more than cooling off with some refreshing scoops of the city’s best ice cream. We’ve sampled it all (and worked it off at our Wave Health & Fitness) to bring you the rundown of where to find the best fun in a cone. Herewith, a few of our favorites:
• Ben & Jerry’s (83 Seaport Blvd., Boston): We’ll start with a national (but New England-born) favorite. Ben & Jerry’s may be everywhere, but it seems apropos to enjoy a cone of the sweet stuff since it’s home creamery is just up the highway in Vermont. The Seaport outpost, located three blocks from the hotel, offers all the classics like Cherry Garcia and Phish Food to fuel your way to the Freedom Trail!
• FoMu (655 Tremont St., Boston): Who says vegans can’t scream for ice cream? This popular South End establishment served plant-based ice cream that is a home run with all taste buds. Made with coconut milk and natural sweeteners, the small-batch production keeps a steady stream of ice cream fans dropping by daily to see what’s in scoop – sweet lavender and bourbon maple walnut are our personal favorites.
• J.P. Licks (150 Charles St., Boston): Jamaica Plain may have claims to the original, but the Beacon Hill J.P. Licks is most convenient for tourists needing a quick cone of creamy goodness to go with a walk along the Charles River Esplanade. Boston’s most popular local ice cream chain keeps locals coming back for ice cream sandwiches, frozen yogurt, and gallons and gallons of its rotating flavors of ice cream.
• Toscanini’s Ice Cream Shop (899 Main St., Cambridge): The New York Times once labeled Toscanini’s in Central Square as the best ice cream in the world, and the steady crowd of MIT students over the years would agree! Salty caramel, B3 (brown sugar, brown butter, and brownies), and choco-holic favorite’s Roxbury Puddingstone are but a few of the 32 rotating flavors on hand – don’t worry, they let you sample before making a final pick.
• TAMO (1 Seaport Lane, Boston): Sometimes the best scoops are the ones found closest to home, er, your hotel room. Drop by Seaport’s TAMO Bistro and Bar for ice cream or sorbet with a freshly baked cookie and fudge sauce. It’s particularly sweet treat enjoyed al fresco on our TAMO Terrace.
